Sulky Harness
$200.00
Description
The harness fits both dogs and goats because the straps adjust in length. The straps that adjust are the collar, the girth, the belly band and the tee strap that connects collar to saddle. Once you have fit your harness to your dog, you may cut off excess length of strap. Leave four or so extra inches to fold back and be held by the elastic band.
The chest strap that goes between the front legs does not adjust. This strap rests on the sternum. The sternum is where the pressure of pulling rests.
When you order a harness, send us the length of your dog or goat’s sternum. We will send a chest strap to fit the sternum. Usually the chest/sternum strap is an inch or two shorter than the measurement that you send us.
The sulky harness is designed to make pulling the sulky (or wagon) a pleasure for the dog. Its thick felt padding protects your dog from the tip of the sulky. Its hasp is welded to a plate that is curved to protect the dog’s spine. It has O-rings in three locations. There are the two safety straps on the saddle on both sides of the hasp. Safety straps from the shaft snap to these O-rings. (The goat in the photo is learning to pull. He is not pulling weight so his safety straps are not attached.)
The O-ring on the back of the saddle is for snapping a tugline. The tugline can attach to a bicycle tire for ground training to the ring at the bend of the forward shaft.
The harness has three layers. The top layer is cordura cloth available in several colors. The middle layer is grey felt. The bottom layer is a tough fabric used on the undersides of equine saddle blankets. Horses sweat; dogs don’t, but the fabric works well with fur and hair.
Available colors vary. In 2024 we have blue, pink, red, green and camouflage. Straps are always black and interchangeable with the varied colored saddles.
Shipping is $14. Shipping is from Georgia.
We need your dog’s measurements before we can send your harness. For goats, send height at withers and girth behind elbows.
You will be using a halter or driving halter for driving or leading goats, not the driving collar available for dogs. Halters are available from llama tack suppliers.
Below are instructions on how to measure your dog.
